2025 Research Prize: the academic and scientific excellence of chartered accountants rewarded

Pour the Order of Chartered Accountants, the year 2025 begins with a strong moment in the promotion of scientific research and academic excellence in Morocco. He, in fact, organized Thursday in Casablanca, the 5th edition of its research prize.

A national priority for scientific research

Abdelouahid Ezzarfi, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education opened the ceremony by recalling that scientific research is at the heart of government priorities. Despite significant progress, such as the launch of strategic plans for 2015-2030, he highlighted persistent challenges: insufficient valorization of research results, lack of financial resources and governance that could be improved. Among the flagship initiatives announced, the granting of scholarships for doctoral students (3,000 DH per month for 900 researchers) and the strengthening of international connections via databases such as Scopus, illustrate a clear commitment to stimulate innovation.

In his speech, Issam El Maguiri, President of the Order of Chartered Accountants spoke, for his part, of the unbreakable link between scientific research and economic development. The desire to reduce the gap between the academic world and businesses is reflected in agreements with Moroccan universities (like the one signed during this meeting), the promotion of management sciences and the organization of large-scale events, such as the 2019 African Accounting Congress.

For his part, Patrick De Cambourg, President of the Accounting Standards Authority in shared a global perspective on the evolution of accounting. He insisted on the importance of extra-financial information in corporate reports, citing the European Union as a leader in this area. The need to strengthen the links between financial and extra-financial accounting constitutes one of the major areas of research for the future.

As far as she is concerned, Bouchra Abbadi, president of the Scientific Commission of the Research Prizedrew up an assessment that was both encouraging and alarming. Although the number of doctoral students in management has increased, scientific publications remain low (0.5 per researcher per year). She presented five strategic avenues to boost research: align themes with the needs of businesses, strengthen doctoral structures, create common databases, motivate researchers with adequate allocations and develop an ambitious national strategy.

The ceremony was marked by the distinction of exceptional research work. After eight months of rigorous deliberations, mobilizing 52 examiners under the chairmanship of Mr. Abdellatif Komat, Dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of Casablanca, the awards distinguished excellence among around fifty applications divided into three categories: Accounting Expertise, Doctorates and Masters Dissertations.
