In Morocco, the number of people registered in the National Crafts Register (RNA) in the Marrakech-Safi region reached 62,923 until the end of December 2024.
Thus, Marrakech-Safi occupies second place nationally with 15% of those registered in the RNA after the Casablanca-Settat region, according to data from the Regional Directorate of Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy.
The prefecture of Marrakech leads the national level in terms of RNA registrations and also occupies first place regionally with 28,191 registered (45%), followed by the provinces of Safi with 8,144 (13%), Al Haouz (7,857, 12%), El Kelâa des Sraghna (6,731, 11%), Essaouira (4,857, 8%), Chichaoua (3,800.6%), Rehamna (1,945.3%) and Youssoufia with 1,398 (2%), specifies the same source.
Furthermore, data from the regional management show that the turnover of the craft sector stood at 7.4 billion dirhams (7% of national turnover), while the index employment reached 74,652 jobs (5% of the national figure), noting that the activities of the sector in Marrakech are highly concentrated in architectural crafts, traditional clothing and wood, representing approximately two thirds of the turnover and of employment in the region.
On the other hand, the Regional Directorate of Crafts indicated that support for artisans affected by the Al Haouz earthquake continued in 2024, with the processing of 1,084 requests for assistance in the reconstruction of damaged workshops. , i.e. a rate of 87% (1,245 requests in total).
-In this sense, a total of 1,084 craftsmen benefited from the first tranche of the subsidy of 8,000 DH, according to the same source which notes that 30% of these beneficiaries have almost completed the repair of their workshops.
Regarding the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the earthquake, a partnership agreement was signed last year to rehabilitate old hotels hosting craft workshops in the medina of Marrakech, where 36 affected hotels were identified with a budget of 94 million DH.
Several training courses were also organized last year for the benefit of artisans in the affected municipalities of the province of Al Haouz to strengthen their production capacities and support the production of new products that take into account market development, in partnership with the Training and Qualification Center in Craft Trades under the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
