Thiès, Jan 9 (APS) – The head of the regional trade department of Thiès (west), Khadim Ndiaye, assured Wednesday that throughout the region, the market is well supplied with crystallized sugar and refined palm oil, two products which would be the subject of shortage according to a rumor which has grown in recent days.

“Certain products are currently the subject of particular monitoring, namely crystallized sugar and refined palm oil,” reacted Mr. Ndiaye, assuring that theThe statement concerning these two products shows a well-supplied market throughout the region.

“For crystallized sugar, availability at market level shows significant quantities which are estimated today at 295.5 tonnes throughout the region,” informs the head of the regional trade department of Thiès.

Regarding palm oil, the quantity recorded on the market is estimated at “228.64 tonnes”, he added, stressing that “all fears of shortage are currently dissipated, both for sugar than for oil.

According to the head of the regional trade service, fears of shortages were “artificially created by certain economic operators”.

The Thiès regional trade department carried out this inventory following persistent rumors of a supposed shortage of certain essential products on the market, especially sugar and refined palm oil.

Concerning the prices applicable to these two products, Khadim Ndiaye affirmed that they are subject to monitoring by his agents, in order to ensure compliance with the approved prices.

“As far as sugar is concerned, no speculation will be tolerated, stocks are sufficient and the measures taken by the authority still remain in force,” he recalled.

“We are in the process of carrying out checks at all stages of commerce, especially with regard to retailers, where we have noted through our teams that the prices are respected by a very large majority of traders,” he further informed. the head of department.
