Jorge Martin already pessimistic for next season

A new MotoGP season will soon begin. As is often the case, many changes took place in the paddock, notably with two major transfers. Two world champions have changed teams: Marc Marquez moved to Ducati, while the reigning champion, Jorge Martin, joined Aprilia.
If this change seems beneficial for Marquez, it is much less so for Martin.

In a podcast broadcast on I have a planavailable in Spain and on YouTube, the title holder has clearly announced that he is not aiming for the crown in 2025: “My goal is not at all to win the world championship this year. »

Clear words, which immediately allow expectations towards him to be tempered.

Not the same bike

“If I had continued with a Ducati, the objective would have been the same: to give the best of myself. (…) Now I don’t know how the new bike is going. The challenge is enormous, because I am taking a bike that was eighth or ninth, instead of a bike that was first, second, third or fourth, which is the Ducati,” continues the Spaniard.

Dismissed by Ducati, which also lost its partnership with Pramac, Jorge Martin now finds himself in an official team, Aprilia. However, the challenge ahead is immense. Last year, he had the best machine in the field; now he rides a bike that only won one race last season.

For his first experience within an official team, Martin will be keen to bring Aprilia to the top. But he is aware of the obstacles: “If I start with fifth places and end up winning races, I will be extremely proud. Even with second places. The important thing is to progress. »

Heading towards 2026

If Jorge Martin seems to rule out any title ambition for 2025, he does not rule out the possibility of aiming higher in 2026:

“Bringing the Aprilia into this leading group will not be easy, and I know it. So my goal is not to win the championship this year. Maybe in 2026 I can think about it more, and try to fight for the title. But for now, it's mostly about seeing where I am, giving the best of myself, and seeing what happens. »
