Monday January 6, the Meuse suffered the fury of the Floriane storm. Placed on orange alert by Météo , the department suffered wind gusts reaching 112 km/h. Obviously, as reported by L'Est Républicain, these violent winds caused a series of disruptions, including power outages, uprooted trees and traffic restrictions.

Firefighter interventions

According to our colleagues, the firefighters were called to the rescue eight times in municipalities such as Verdun, Stenay, and Saint-Mihiel. Their intervention concerned various damages: tiles blown away, damaged chimneys, and electrical cables fallen to the ground after falling trees. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The strong wind not only uprooted trees, but also damaged road infrastructure. A thirty interventions were necessary to release the departmental roadsparticularly in the North and South of the Meuse. Sections of the A4, RN4, and RN135 have been subject to speed and overtaking restrictions, particularly for heavy goods vehicles.

Restoration of electricity

Finally, Enedis had to intervene throughout the evening to restore electricity after 2,000 homes have been deprived of power. At 6:30 p.m., 1,000 homes were still without electricity in areas such as Consenvoye, Gercourt and Saint-Hilaire-en-Woëvre.

While the wind has died down, authorities continue to monitor the risks of weakened trees and flooding. It is strongly recommended to remain vigilant in the days to come.
