2024 was an absolutely exceptional year for immersive co-productions from France Télévisions via its StoryLab label! ????
Our projects literally shone on the international stage, winning 21 prix – including one Lion at the Mostra 81 (for the second year in a row!) thanks to Impulsea moving VR work that plunges us into the heart of lives disrupted by ADHD, a hot topic today. Emperora VR work on aphasia, was selected for the prestigious Emmy Awards after his Lion at the Mostra 80 (and a total of 13 rewards for this year!), while Maya enchanted the whole 1re immersive competition of the Cannes Film Festival and was presented to the Minister of Culture, Madame Rachida Dati. ????????
Our tireless quest for new stories and innovations continues to propel us towards new horizons. For 2025, we are delighted to announce two ambitious projects :
- The next immersive live show from Blanca Liwith a VR format for platforms, in collaboration with the Culture unit of France Télévisions for linear capture.
- And the captivating adventure of the mission Artemistold in VR and in a 360° documentary designed for domes and planetariums, – two new formats which will enrich the 2 x 52 min linear documentary – produced by ZED Zed and co-produced by the International Coproductions and Documentary Acquisition division as part of Global Doc, alliance of international public broadcasters.
And that's not all: new immersive experiences will soon complete our offering, which is ever more daring, gamified and connected to the expectations of younger generations. ????✨
On the distribution side, we are constantly pushing the boundaries! Our virtual reality co-productions are available on the Meta Quest VR headset store and will soon be accessible via new distribution methods. And what a success with the VR projections of Battlefield (360° film on the Great War) on November 7! Spectators viewed the film through a VR headset, while the 5.1 sound mix was broadcast in the theater. A world premiere (excluding the Netherlands), which reinvents cinema by offering a unique, intimate and immersive experience, opening up new distribution perspectives. And this is just the beginning: 2025-2026 will mark the launch of our first operations on site in VR and in a dome, with the involvement of France tv distribution.
Finally, a point of honor: StoryLab is proud to support parity in creation! Since the end of 2020, all of our co-productions have counted 54% female authors, 43% female directors et 53% female producerswithout forgetting the composers, UX and game designers. ????
More than ever, the StoryLab opens wide the doors to the imaginations of tomorrow. ????
