Too many religious symbols on the City of Lyon’s greeting card? Yasmine Bouagga called Grégory Doucet to account

We see a rather soothing, although imaginary, scene: a family is dining by candlelight on the banks of the Saône, at the foot of the Saint-Georges footbridge. With wine and pâté clearly visible on the table.

And some see there as too strong a presence of potentially religious symbols. Starting with the basilica of Fourvière, but also a woman with white hair who joins her hands and seems to be praying at the table. In this regard, we can also find that the windows of the buildings in the background have the shape of a Christian cross…

According to Le Progrès, upon discovering the greeting card, the mayor of the 1st arrondissement Yasmine Bouagga was surprised by the ostentatious presence of these symbols. Especially coming from Grégory Doucet, who, out of respect for secularism, has refused to participate in the Wish of the Aldermen since his election.

Without denying that the woman is praying, the City of announces that it has not given any instructions to the artist to include religious symbols on the map.

The mayor of the 1st arrondissement can therefore be reassured, it was not her environmentalist executive who asked for religion to have so much space in the design. Even if it is he who validated it, and who will pay the bill of 9,000 euros excluding tax to the artist.

A carte blanche therefore granted to the latter, which contrasts with the controversy of last year, where the modifications demanded by the Greens were so numerous that the artists had disowned their drawing and refused to sign it.
