“I tried, I lost…” The frail young man of 22 years old who faces the Lorient judicial court this Monday January 6, 2024 is probably not tall the seriousness of the facts which he is accused of.

130 km/h with a 50 cm3 scooter!

Wearing jeans, black sneakers and a gray hooded sweatshirt, he is on trial for having refused, while riding his scooter, to comply with a gendarmerie check on September 24, 2023 at the end of the day on a roundabout in Saint-Barthélemy.

A chase then began between the bikers and the scooter. A 50 cm³ “without mirrors, without lights and without a license plate” says the president. On several occasions the bikers are next to the fugitive and their speedometer shows 130 km/h, well beyond the capabilities of a scooter of this displacement. The crazy chase – after the young man tried several times to hit the gendarmes’ motorcycles – ended for the young man in a ditch near Saint-Hilaire where he was apprehended by the police.

Why this chase, asks the president? “ I was afraid because I knew I was going to lose my scooter in which I put all my money. I tried, I lost. »

But the matter does not end there. The police discovered on the scooter a link to a TikTok account. Enough to aggravate the already heavy file of this young man from Moustoir-Remungol in Évellys. Thirteen videos feature him behind the wheel of his modified machine: wheeling, overtaking despite a continuous line and all kinds of dangerous behavior.

On the stand he easily admits to having made these videos of “things we are not allowed to do” thanks to his phone “fixed in my fanny pack”. For what purpose asks the president. “I wanted to have people watching me do stupid things on the road.”

The defendant, shy, does not have a lawyer and clearly does not understand the dramatic consequences which could have taken him to another court. He produces a letter from his boss, who needs his “electrician” with his driving license, to try to smooth things over.

But the prosecutor doesn't see it that way. “It’s miraculous that there were no injuries or deaths! And what's more, you're doing this in this context where you're boasting on social networks”, reprimands the prosecutor, quite annoyed to see again and again “all these people who come here and who don't care (sic) about the suspended prison sentence and fines: the only thing that interests them istheir sacrosanct driving license! Well, let’s hit where it hurts.” And to request a cancellation of the driving license without the possibility of retaking it before six months as well as a suspended prison sentence of six months.

The court follows these requisitions to the letter, also accompanied by a ban on driving any motor vehicle for six months.
