Ziguinchor, January 6 (APS) – Classes resumed timidly at the Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor (south), this Monday, January 6, 2025, after a month of closure, noted the APS.
Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor was closed on November 27 following violent clashes between students and police, which caused several injuries.
At the end of its last meeting, the academic council chaired by rector Alassane Diédhiou took the decision to resume teaching this Monday, January 6, 2025.
A tour of the faculties revealed that teaching has resumed but timidly.
Students found there rejoiced and called on their comrades to return to the lecture halls.
“After closing the educational campus for more than a month, the students are now back. Currently they come in small numbers but we hope that they will all be there next week,” declared Mouhameth Diao, master 2 student in the modern literature department.
“The recovery is effective but not all the students are there yet. Classes have resumed but timidly,” also noted Aliou Gningue, a second year mathematics-computer science student.
Cherif Coly, modern literature student, does not hide his satisfaction. »We welcome the action taken by the authorities to restore the situation. Unfortunately, I came to the amphitheater but found no one there. The students have not yet come,” he noted.
Students at Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor declared an indefinite strike on November 22 to demand the completion of the construction of twelve amphitheaters begun since 2015, the reception of a 1,000-bed pavilion and a restaurant “worthy of this name”.
