The customer of a bar in Büren an der Aare, in the canton of Bern, died on Thursday evening shortly after being restrained by two agents from a security company. This 62-year-old Swiss man had previously verbally and physically harassed people in this public establishment.
The two agents from a private security company first asked this man to leave the premises. When he refused, they used pepper spray and put the man on the ground. It was following this tackle that the client lost consciousness.
The man died on the spot despite rescuers’ efforts to resuscitate him. The cause of death is currently unclear, the Bernese cantonal police and the Bernese Jura-Seeland Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday. An investigation is underway.
