Notre Maïté nationale, who died on December 21, 2024, had left its first restaurant on avenue de la Gare, the Relais des Landes, in 1993. In the process, Christine Campet and Yves Cernaïts, restaurateurs in the neighboring town of Laluque, took over the case in December of that same year. They lasted until 2001, when Olivier Paya and his friend moved into the old Lapeyre hotel which is now Relais de Rion-des-Landes. Discreet and courteous service, and a menu that is completely out of the ordinary, will characterize their many years spent, now, at 221, avenue Frédéric Bastiat. About fifteen years have passed and the restaurant no longer changes its name. And for good reason: the curtain fell, the old building closed the shutters and experienced a journey through the desert for a few years.

Fifteen rooms with bathrooms

Until January 20, 2023, the date on which Christophe Paillaugue bought the site from Olivier Paya to provide seasonal accommodation for his employees. Within his EARL La Légumière business in Rion-des-Landes, Christophe hosts seasonal staff throughout the year: from spring asparagus and other summer vegetables, to the packaging of leeks in winter. Knowing that all its crops are organic, therefore “hoeing and weeding all by hand”. To ensure accommodation for employees, the surrounding campsites cannot ensure continuity of availability, especially in the middle of summer.

These accommodations will benefit seasonal workers at EARL La Légumière all year round, managed by Christophe Paillaugue opposite.

As soon as the building was purchased, a long upgrading process began, from the framework to the electrical installation, including sanitation and many others to now offer around fifteen rooms, complete integrated bathrooms. “All this allows me to be less dependent on campsites, to offer those who come to La Légumière very decent accommodation and to expand my activity accordingly,” rejoices Christophe Paillaugue. This concern for welcoming active people is another beautiful idea that Maïté's big heart would have greatly appreciated.
