THE rains et snowfall recorded in recent days in several regions of Morocco contributed to an increase in dam filling rateaccording to data from Ministry of Equipment and Water. The filling level, as of Monday January 6, 2025, amounts to 28.4%, representing a reserve volume of more than 4.77 billion m3. This rate thus marks an increase of more than 5% (one billion m3) compared to the same period last year (3.74 billion m3 – 23.23%).

Concerning the filling levels per basin, the latest precipitation mainly benefited the South-East, North and Center regions of the Kingdom. An improvement is recorded at Loukkos, Bouregreg-Chaouia, Draa-Oued Noun and Oum Er Rbia.

According to forecasts of the general directorate of meteorologyof strong rains are expected at the start of the week in the northern regions of the country, with snowfall on the overhanging heights.

Thus, strong thunderstorms (40-60 mm) are expected in the provinces of Tanger-Assilah, Larache, Mdiq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Ouezzane, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Taounate, Sidi Kacem and Kénitrafrom Sunday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 4 p.m., said the DGM in an “orange” vigilance level alert bulletin.

On heights exceeding 1,700 m, snowfall (15-30 cm) will concern, on Monday, the provinces of Chefchaouen, Azilal, Ifrane, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou and Al Hoceimaadded the same source.
