Like every year, INSEE has just published the figures for “2022 vintage populations”, that is to say those which will come into force on January 1, 2025. And finally, after narrowly missing this symbolic bar during the last figures in 2016 with 9,644 inhabitants, the City of Dammartin-en-Goële officially counts 10 000 habitants.

An upward trend

In Dammartin-en-Goële, the municipal population has therefore crossed the threshold of 10,000 inhabitants, reaching 11 508against 9,644 in 2016. Over the reference period, the town therefore welcomed 1,864 additional residents. As for the total population, it now reaches 11,585 inhabitants.

A figure which can be explained in particular by the construction of numerous housing units in recent years in the town.

A bull market qThis also occurs in all the municipalities surrounding Dammartin. Othis (6,777 in 2016 compared to 6,810 currently, an increase of 33 inhabitants), Saint-Pathus (6,534 currently compared to 6,101 in 2016, or more 433 inhabitants), Saint-Soupplets (3,619 inhabitants compared to 3,287 in 2016, i.e. 332 additional inhabitants), or even Moussy-le-Neuf (3,255 inhabitants compared to 3,052 in 2016) being the perfect example.

The only exceptions in the three smallest municipalities in the territory are Vinantes, Le Plessis-Evêque and Gesvres-le-Chaptre. The first named loses 3 inhabitants, going from 383 to 380, while Le Plessis-Evêque goes from 295 to 291 and Gesvres-le-Chapitre falls below the 150 inhabitants mark with 146 inhabitants compared to 154 in 2016.

Figures, and consequences

Calculated using methods adapted to the health crisis, these data, which reflect recent demographic developments in municipalities, provide a better understanding of local dynamics. They will especially have consequences on local planning, infrastructure development, as well as the management of public services. Town halls will thus be able to better anticipate the needs of the population and adjust their public policies accordingly.

At the departmental level, the population experienced a clear increase between 2016 and 2022. The total population of the department now stands at 1,452,399 inhabitants, compared to 1,397,665 in 2016, an increase of nearly 55,000 inhabitants in six years.

Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the annual census survey which was to be held in 2021 was postponed to 2022. INSEE has adapted its population calculation methods to compensate for this postponement.
