Moroccan cities were the scene, this Friday, of more than 115 demonstrations in 56 localities. These mobilizations aimed to denounce the massacres perpetrated by the Israeli occupation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as to protest against the burning of hospitals in the territory by Israeli forces. These actions come in particular after the fire at Kamal Adwan hospital and the threats of destruction of Al-Awda hospital.
Moroccans continue to take to the streets at an almost daily rate to express their rejection of the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians in Gaza, a situation which has lasted for 455 days.
This Friday, the Moroccan body supporting the causes of the Umma announced the organization of 115 demonstrations across 56 Moroccan cities, as part of the 56th Friday of protests. The slogan chosen for this day was: “ The Moroccan people condemn the fire at Kamal Adwan hospital ».
The demonstrators, gathered in front of mosques after Friday prayers, called on international institutions and the World Health Organization (WHO) to guarantee the protection of medical teams, first responders and health infrastructure, in order to allow them to continue to carry out their mission in the catastrophic conditions prevailing in Gaza.
The protesters also castigated the official silence of the international community and the lack of reaction from Arab countries to what they describe as the systematic extermination of civilians. They urged Arab States, including Morocco, to abandon the normalization process with this State which they accuse of bathing in the blood of martyrs, whether children or women, according to the press release from the Authority.
In front of the Parliament in Rabat, activists took part in a sit-in organized by the Palestine Working Group. They denounced Arab silence and international complicity in the face of the Israeli occupation’s massacres against Palestinians and the burning of hospitals. The demonstrators demanded measures to save the lives of the sick, the displaced and the medical personnel trapped in these establishments.
On Friday, Israeli occupying forces ordered medical teams and patients to immediately leave Al-Awda Hospital, located in Jabaliya camp, before bombing it. The Israeli army has already started targeting the area around the hospital and dropping bombs in its main courtyard to terrorize those present and force them to evacuate it.
Al-Awda hospital is now the last health structure still operating in northern Gaza, after the Kamal Adwan and Indonesian hospitals were decommissioned in recent days. This situation raises fears of terrible massacres, given the large number of wounded, sick, doctors and displaced people at Al-Awda hospital.
New demonstrations in support of Gaza are planned in several Moroccan cities this Saturday evening and Sunday. Several associations and organizations have already announced the holding of night gatherings.
Note that the Moroccan Body of Support for the Causes of the Umma organizes dozens of sit-ins every Friday, while the National Working Group for Palestine leads regular demonstrations every Wednesday and Friday in front of Parliament, in addition to other initiatives throughout the week.
Since the start of the aggression against Gaza, Moroccan cities have experienced massive daily mobilizations and marches. This situation prompted the Israeli Foreign Ministry to evacuate its staff to Rabat at the start of the conflict, while Israel’s National Security Council issued a warning advising its citizens against traveling to Morocco.
