The adventure of the Le Riverain Festival in Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux is officially over after 13 presentations, the last of which was a good success, from July 25 to 28, 2024.
It is not with joy of heart that the organizers put an end to the event. The organizers are running out of steam in the face of growing difficulties.
“Finding financing is becoming difficult. Sponsors are in great demand and fewer and fewer in number. Recruiting volunteers is becoming really difficult and what can we say about the soaring prices for everything that concerns this type of event,” say those in charge.
Huge task
For the mayor of Saint-Mathieu, Roger Martin, the end of the festival is a heavy loss for his municipality.
“It’s a lot of work for a few people involved. The immense task becomes truly difficult and frustrating. This partly explains its disappearance. We should perhaps think about more citizen involvement in our local committees. We would like to thank all the people who, directly or indirectly, have put effort and energy throughout these years to offer us a quality festival,” he comments.
During its last presentation in 2024, the Festival du Riverain presented several musical shows, a soap box race, its traditional barbecue and its traditional brunch.
