Météo-France placed 22 departments in the north and north-east of France on orange snow and ice alert on Saturday January 4. Freezing rain and snowfall are expected.
As temperatures drop, there is a risk of snow and ice. This is what is happening in the north-east of France. Thus, 22 departments were placed on Saturday evening, January 4, on orange snow and ice alert, Météo-France reports.
The departments concerned by orange vigilance are: Seine-Maritime, Somme, Pas-de-Calais, Nord, Oise, Vosges, Aisne, Ardennes, Meuse, Haute-Marne, Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Eure, Marne, Côte-d’Or, Aube, Saône-et-Loire, Seine-et-Marne, Val d’Oise and the Territoire de Belfort. 15 departments remain on orange alert until Sunday January 5 at 6 a.m.
Up to 5 centimeters of snow on the ground
“A disturbance associated with a lot of mild air will sweep across the entire country in a southwest and northeast direction” Saturday January 4 and during the night from Saturday to Sunday, indicated Météo-France. The disruption will “come to encounter a mass of cold air”thus causing “snowfall and especially freezing rain for a few hours”.
Up to 5 centimeters of snow on the ground is expected in the Grand-Est, although snowfall will be “fairly brief”explained the site. Météo-France does not envisage, for the moment, a worsening of orange vigilance.
