In connection with public policies aimed at limiting the consumption of natural, agricultural and forestry spaces, fighting against urban sprawl, densifying the urbanized fabric and allowing territories to better adapt to the effects of global warming, the Departmental Directorate of Territories (DDT) of promotes good practices among elected officials in rural communities.

In 2024, an approach in collaboration with the Moselle urban planning agency (AGURAM) and the Moselle architecture, town planning and environment council (CAUE) led to the publication of a collection of experiences highlighting virtuous operations in terms of land sobriety.

This series of 7 fact sheets brings together virtuous projects and committed municipalities. So many inspirations for rethinking the residential development of the territories.

Summarized and illustrated, they highlight a range of responses for the intensification of inhabited spaces, whether by rehabilitating wastelands, mobilizing vacant buildings, or promoting gentle densification.

You will also find a summary of the stages of each project, their architectural or urban qualities, but also the difficulties overcome and the deciphering of innovative development choices.

Local examples, which prove to us that land sobriety is already at work and easily applicable, that reflections on refocused urban development are multiple and adaptable to each municipality, and that alternatives are already underway.

This publication is produced by AGURAM and the CAUE of Moselle, with the support of the Departmental Directorate of Territories of Moselle.
