A young miner died in Strasbourg on New Year's Eve after being hit by a motorist. The victim was buried this Friday, January 3, surrounded by his still devastated loved ones.
On New Year's Eve, Rayanne, 15, was fatally struck down in Strasbourg by a driver who fled. Aged 19, the driver finally ended up surrendering to the authorities before being indicted for manslaughter aggravated by a hit-and-run.
For the victim's family, it is time to mourn. This Friday, January 3, Rayane was buried in the Muslim square of the cemetery of the city of Ill in Strasbourg after a large prayer which brought together nearly a thousand people at the mosque.
“It was Rayane who fed our nest”
At the time of the burial, Rayane's father was still deeply upset. “I am collapsed. Collapsed. Collapsed. We have no more strength, no more strength at all,” he confided to ICI Alsace.
“It was Rayane who fed our nest. He was the one who fed our apartment,” he added, marked by emotion.
Schooled at the Aristide Briand high school in Schiltigheim, Rayane studied hospitality, a path that the young man appreciated. “He was preparing a two-year CAP in catering. He liked it. Because it was the black pants, the white shirt and the shoes,” his father tells Ici Alsace.
“I'm angry”
The arrest of the driver responsible for Rayane's death does not ease the pain of her family. “I ask that justice be done, because our lives have been taken away from us, our lives will never be the same again,” underlines the victim’s father to ICI Alsace.
“I'm angry. And this anger will never cool down. We can judge him (the driver, editor's note) but the anger will be there forever,” he concludes.
