Grosse fright for passengers on a Paris-Barcelona flight, Friday evening, January 3, 2025. While a Airbus of the company Air France had just taken off from Roissy-Charles-de-Galle airport to reach the Catalan capital, “the plane issued an emergency at 9:45 p.m.,” revealed the Aircommunity account on its social networks. This emergency related to cabin pressurization.
After seventeen minutes of flight
In the images of a video relayed on X, we see the fallen oxygen maskssome passengers wearing it. We also hear children crying.
The aircraft, an A318 intended for short and medium hauls and which can carry up to 132 passengers, then had to “descend quickly to 8,000 feet and turn around” towards the Paris airport. He was able to land without incident, specifies Aircommunity.
In a press release published this Saturday, January 4, the national airline confirms that “the flight crew (..) decided to return to their base after seventeen minutes of flight due to a cabin pressurization malfunction. »
“In application of the emergency descent procedure, the crew activated the drop of the oxygen masks in the cabin, because the automatic release altitude of the masks had not yet been reached,” adds Air France.
The plane landed normally at Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 10:12 p.m. (local time) to carry out technical checks. As a result, flight AF1448 as well as return AF1449 were canceled.
The customers were taken care of by Air France teams at the airport and will be rerouted to Barcelona as soon as possible, says the company, which regrets “the inconvenience caused by this situation and recalls that the safety of its customers and its crews is its absolute imperative.” And to insist: “The crews are regularly trained to manage this type of situation, in accordance with the manufacturer's procedures. »
