The Aït Ziat dam, under construction in the province of Al Haouz, displays a work progress rate of 74%, according to the latest figures communicated by the Maa Dialna platform, affiliated with the Ministry of Equipment and Water .
The construction of this earthwork, culminating at 71 meters above its foundations, and whose water retention zone will cover 992 hectares with a watershed of 521.7 cubic meters, has made notable progress. Thanks to an acceleration of the work, the site is more than twenty months ahead of the initially planned schedule. This makes it possible to anticipate the filling of the dam this year, while the full completion of the work is scheduled for the end of 2025, reports the same source.
This project pursues several essential objectives for the region. It aims to both create jobs and train the local workforce, with around 450,000 work days generated during the construction phase. It also aims to guarantee the supply of drinking water to populations and to support local agriculture through irrigation of land.
In addition, the construction of access roads will open up the surrounding rural areas, promoting trade and access to services. Finally, the creation of a vast body of water offers interesting prospects for the development of ecological tourism.
