A project that combines creativity and diversity. The French-speaking collective “la log” continues its mission to promote women’s comics. Created in 2015 by Swiss artists Fanny Vaucher and Jenay, this group brings together around a hundred authors and aims to make their work visible in an environment still little represented by women. Each year, 17 new authors join the collective to contribute to an annual publication in the form of a fanzine.
Beyond this production, “la log” carries out various projects, such as artistic residencies and exhibitions. Among its recent initiatives, the “Sorority” project is one.
Between November 22 and December 9, 2024, six Swiss authors participated in an artistic residency in the Democratic Republic of Congo. “For two weeks, we collaborated with five authors from Kenya, Gabon, Morocco and the DRC,” explains Agathe Borin, member of the collective and based in the canton of Neuchâtel for five years.
Enriching moments
This collaboration allowed the participants to combine their experiences and their graphic worlds. “Working and exchanging together around our different practices and experiences was very good collective learning,” smiles the author.
-The days of the eleven women gathered for this initiative were punctuated by collaborative workshops, exchanges of ideas and artistic explorations. On site, the tools differed depending on the participants’ habits. “Most African authors favored digital tools, but they were happy to work with our more traditional techniques such as paper, ink or pencil,” adds Agathe Borin.
The residency was made possible thanks to Pro Helvetia (Swiss Cultural Foundation). Several supports, in particular a donation of 6,000 CHF from the Cultural Foundation of the Banque cantonale neuchâteloise will enable a publication and an exhibition for the BDFIL Festival planned for May 2025.
