Amélie and Gida seem connected, like two soul mates. Between the breeder and the dog, the relationship is close. “It’s as if we’ve always known each other,” confides Amélie Meunier. Based in Glanges since 2012, the greyhound breeder launched into canine beauty contests in 2015 with her first whippets, greyhounds.
From the start, the young Haut-Viennese accumulated prizes and made her way through competitions in France and internationally. “I started selling to specific customers, coming from all over the world,” confides the young woman who is now known and recognized in the world of greyhound breeding in France.
An exceptional dog
Among his first dogs, one attracted more attention than the others: Royal Chance. Victim of a malformation from birth, she becomes the mascot of the breeder. “We saved her and despite all her faults, I took her to the French championship,” says Amélie happily.
While continuing to compete with her whippets, the thirty-year-old is launching a new challenge: raising Hungarian greyhounds, called Magyar Agár. An elite breed: “In France, there are only three breeders and 158 specimens”.
To get the dog she dreams of, “the real Hungarian greyhound”, the breeder decides to contact the president of the international cynological federation, Tamas Jakkel, himself of Hungarian nationality.
A distinguished breeder, the latter initially refuses to sell him a dog. “I give up and leave the project aside. He asked me as a friend on the networks and observed the results I was achieving for a year before contacting me again,” confides Amélie, still moved several years later.
