You need a lot of patience this Thursday, January 2, to reach France from Spain. Shortly after 4 p.m., a traffic jam of around 6 kilometers was still in progress, before the Boulou toll barrier in the direction of Montpellier and Lyon.
According to Radio Vinci Autoroutes (107.7), this situation is due to a “control operation of the authorities“. To allow these checks, several toll lanes would have been temporarily closed, specifies the motorway radio. Contacted by France 3 Occitanie, the customs department denies being at the origin of a control operation. The traffic jam at the toll would rather be due, according to her, to the density of traffic.
This influx is explained by the large number of French people returning from a stay in Spain for the holidays, as well as by the prospect of a long weekend for the Spaniards, Monday January 6 being a public holiday due to the celebration of the Three Wise Men.
To follow the evolution of traffic conditions in real time, you are invited to tune into 107.7, the Vinci Autoroutes radio station.
