Every year since 2012, the New Year bath has enlivened the town of Hermanville-sur-Mer, north of Caen (Calvados). For this January 1, 2025, this part of the Côte de Nacre was even more the beach to be. Regulars, locals, vacationers, are now meeting up to start the year with a swim.
Wind and waves
This time, the conditions were a little more sporty than usual. The wind transformed the Channel Sea into a surfing spot. Pretty rollers which did not cool down the bathers who got wet in water at around 7°.
“It stirs”
“How is it moving”, could be heard as we left the water on a beach crowded with spectators, curious people or friends and families of the participants.
Around 400 bathers
Among the 400 (surely a new record) frozen at lunchtime (1 p.m.), Christine stood out as a local for the stage, “I live in Hermanville. » But she had never dared to take the plunge. “It’s a great first, with a friend, we thought we were cool!” »
I'm really happy to have done it, it's a very good experience that we will repeat.
Like many people, Christine stayed in the water for quite a long time: “it's hard to get in at first, it's paralyzing, but it's fine afterward, we even stayed for a quarter of an hour. »
