Every New Year's Eve, the police set up a vast system of road checks. In their sights around Lyon: party drivers who take reckless risks by getting behind the wheel after the New Year's Eve party while having consumed alcohol or drugs.

Their objective, “zero accidents” on New Year’s Evea period very conducive to the significant consumption of alcohol and narcotics in the festive setting. Tuesday evening and on the night of January 1, 2025, the Rhône gendarmes were deployed in several municipalities. Across the Rhône, 800 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized yesterday evening, according to our information.

Drugs and alcohol driving, no license… More than 35 offenses

The gendarmes were deployed in several municipalities in the department and the metropolis of Lyon, notably L'Arbresle, Craponne, Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, Dardilly, Saint-Foy l'Argentière and Saint-Laurent de Chamousset, for these night checks .

Around forty gendarmes from the Arbresle company and the Dardilly motorized brigade noted two driving license faults, 13 misdemeanor and fine driving under the influence of alcohol, two driving under narcotics, 7 insurance faults, one non-transfer of crisis card, 8 technical inspection defects and a fine for drug use.

In total more than 35 offenses.

“On this evening of festivities, our gendarmes continued their fight against thefts and burglaries and accompanied our merchants when businesses closed,” the Rhône gendarmes also added.
