Trigironde is the new sorting center for household waste – paper and plastics from yellow trash cans – located in Saint-Denis-de-Pile (Gironde), north of , supported by 7 Gironde communities: SMICOTOM, SICTOM Sud-Gironde, cdc Médoc Estuaire, cdc Médullienne, cdc Convergence Garonne, SEMOCTOM and SMICVAL.

Its activity concerns approximately 520 000 habitants in Gironde. The entire site has a capacity of 34,000 tonnes of packaging per year with a flow rate of 11 tons per hour.

Since its opening, 25 jobs were created in addition to the 30 existing at the old center.

The mission of this new Trigironde sorting center is to support the extension of sorting instructions throughout the Gironde region.

The site was inaugurated on December 19, 2024 in the presence of Etienne Guyot, prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, prefect of Gironde, Christophe Doray, president of the Société Publique Locale Trigironde, Antoine André, South-West regional director CITEO, Emmanuel Bejanin, delegated regional director of ADEME and Stéphane Persol, director of business development at Sepur.

To carry out the project to rebuild the old sorting center located in Saint-Denis-de-Pile, the 7 communities relied on the expertise of Sepur, an operator specializing in the collection and recovery of waste.

Market representative, Sepur collaborated with partners to realize this program reconciling the creation of a new, more modern sorting center, and a extension de 3 770 m2.

Now having 6,730 m2 surface area, the building has a sorting line sized to process 34,000 tonnes of waste per year.

The center accommodates new generation equipment, including a park of optical sorting machines ultra-efficient for automated management of incoming volumes.

This scalable sorting center includes innovative processes adapted to new packaging, making sorting lines more fluid, better detecting dangerous objects and limiting manual intervention by agents.

A site integrating human and environmental criteria

As part of an environmental and human approach, the sorting center is aiming for quadruple ISO 14001, 9001, 4500 and 50001 certification.

Revolutionizing the working conditions of employees, Trigironde has ergonomic sorting cabins to reduce any form of risk for agents. The site constitutes a model in terms of working environment, notably with large spaces designed for agents made up of glass surfaces over a length of nearly 330 meters, guaranteeing unprecedented brightness.

Meeting sustainable building standards, the industrial tool is distinguished by an exterior envelope in harmony with the surrounding natural space. Jean of Hyacintha architect specializing in composites, joined forces with this project, bringing his modern vision to realize the sorting center of tomorrow.

We are proud of the trust placed by Trigironde. A pivotal industrial performance tool, the sorting center was designed according to the highest standards to meet the quality criteria supported by this territory.

Yuri Ivanov, president of Sepur

“This new operational structure confirms our positioning in the sorting segment,” adds Youri Ivanov, president of Sepur. While communities place waste at the heart of their challenges, they can count on our industrial expertise to support them. »

27 million euros investment

The management of Trigironde is carried out with the social desire to support the local associative fabric. Relying on the services of Libournais plaicean employment support association, the sorting center welcomes 10 employees on integration contracts. Ultimately, a hiring plan should make it possible to gradually increase the number of incumbents to 40 FTEs.

Responsible for coordinating this project, CITEO participated in the financing to the tune of 950 000 euroswhile ADEME financed the sorting center to the tune of 4 446 621 euros. The site mobilized 27 million euros investment.

“Simplifying the sorting process removes consumer doubts and improves the sorting of all packaging, particularly plastic. It is a real lever in the recycling chain, to preserve natural resources and fight against pollution », specifies Antoine André, South-West regional director of CITEO.

An innovative sharing tool with public project management

The political project, studied since 2016, is based on the pooling of costs and mainly transport.

Indeed, the SPL Trigironde brings together 7 communities from Médoc to South Gironde with an ambition for cooperation and solidarity around an innovative tool with public project ownership.

The sorting center is not at the center of gravity of its territory, the distances traveled may be unequal, all transport costs are shared: “whatever the distance traveled, the cost is the same”.

“We are very happy and proud of the commitment of our communities in this Gironde cooperation project. Long-term work has made it possible to create SPL Trigironde to serve our fellow citizens from 7 communities with waste skills. The bet was met: a sorting center under public project management for contain the progression of sorting costsand ensure fair treatment of our 520,000 inhabitants,” declares Langonnais Christophe Doray, president of the Société Publique Locale Trigironde.
