Behind the imposing work to create the multimodal station and the redevelopment of the station district, another project is transforming the landscape of Pontorson, the last town before Mont Saint-Michel (Manche).
A strategic location
Behind the media library, opposite the college and the sports complex, the children's and youth center has been under construction since May 15, 2024. The project was validated in 2022 by the Mont Saint-Michel – Normandy urban community.
In eighteen months, the inhabitants of Pontorson and the surrounding area will be able to benefit from a space entirely dedicated to children and youth.
The choice of this location for the children's and youth center is strategic and will allow a great transversality of services: the children welcomed at the center will be able to benefit from the surrounding cultural and sporting structures, thus avoiding transport costs and time wasted on journeys.
A nursery for 18 babies
A nursery of more than 200m² is planned there, designed to accommodate 18 toddlers. A definite asset for the city, which will have two nap rooms, an activity and motor skills room with dining area, a changing room, and an office. An outdoor space is also planned with a courtyard and a courtyard.
The Relais Petite Enfance (RPE) of approximately 75m² will be open to childminders in the area and to parent employers. A space of approximately 21m² will accommodate parents for information or training meetings, as part of the “parenting” missions of this structure.
A leisure center for 92 children
The leisure center is designed for 92 children. Over more than 400m², three spaces will be differentiated, according to age groups: 3-6 years, 6-9 years and 10-14 years. They will be green, with courtyards and courtyards.
A 60m² space for young people will be equipped with table football, kitchen, lounge, computer station. It will be located on the ground floor, in an already existing part of the cultural center.
The infrastructure (earthworks and foundations) is complete. The masonry package is in progress, the slab joist floor is laid and the concrete slab is poured for the entire building. The walls are nearing completion.
A project costing 2,885,580 euros
The Family Allowance Fund covers €742,000 of the cost of this child-youth center: €342,000 for the crèche, €100,000 for the RPE and €300,000 for the leisure center.
The Department of Manche, via the territory contract, contributes €721,395 (25% of the total cost of the project, or 2,885,580 euros).
The State, under the Grant to support local investment, subsidizes €270,557 and the Municipal Assistance Fund for €210,000.
The remainder being financed by the Mont Saint-Michel – Normandy urban community, i.e. 941,628 euros.
