The firefighters were called at 4 a.m., Wednesday January 1, 2025, for a fire which broke out in a house, in Plouigneau, at Impasse des Genêts. When emergency services arrived, the fire had spread to the attic. Fifteen young people who were celebrating New Year's Eve were evacuated and escaped unharmed. Two young men who were “slightly intoxicated” had inhaled smoke and were transported to the Pays de Morlaix Hospital Center for control operations. “They left the hospital in the morning and joined their family,” reassures Joëlle Huon, mayor of the town.
The upper floor of the house and the roof are destroyed
Between twenty and twenty-five firefighters from Guerlesquin, Plougonven and Morlaix were mobilized until 10:30 a.m. to put out the fire. The upper floor of the house and the roof were destroyed.
According to the Plourin-lès-Morlaix gendarmerie, dispatched to the site, the investigation is focusing on a fire starting from a wood stove. At this stage, there is no hypothesis to explain the reasons for the spread to the attic.
