Work began at the end of September. For several weeks, we have seen the birth of the cycle path, particularly at the roundabout between Langon and Saint-Macaire and Saint-Maixant. This dedicated route will connect Langon to Saint-Macaire from the spring. In the meantime, safety barriers and markings will be added. “We can see the end of it,” rejoices Marie-Claude Agulluna, departmental councilor for Entre-deux-Mers. This was one of our campaign promises in 2021.”
The 2.2 kilometer portion required an investment of 225,000 euros for the Department, financed with assistance from the State and the Region. The construction of a second section of 3.5 kilometers to Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac is scheduled for the fall of 2025. Then in 2026-2027, a final route should be built to connect Caudrot then Castets-et- Castillon via the Eiffel Bridge. The total amount is estimated at 2.3 million euros.
But the Gironde à vélo plan, like other projects, risks being undermined by the financial constraints of the community. “We are waiting for the budget to be drawn up in March to find out if we can complete this project. We know that this work is essential for tourism, but also for everyday travel, particularly for middle school students in Pian or high school students in Langon. It is absolutely necessary to secure the routes. »
Make the cycle route known
On the other bank, the Deux-Mers cycle route created in 2014 to connect Langon to Castets-et-Castillon, a rehabilitation of the signage is planned. “We need to highlight it, make it more known,” insists Didier Laulan, mayor of Castets-et-Castillon and vice-president of the CdC in charge of tourism.
Among other projects in the area, the creation of a cycle lane between Langon and Mazères on the Bazas road (RN 524), requested by Jérôme Guillem, president of the South-Gironde Community of Communes. It would serve the Pays de Langon business park in Mazères. Discussions are underway with the State.
