Located next to the Cathedral of Saint-Claude, the Musée de la pipe a you diamond offers an exhibition unique in the world which takes the visitor on a journey to the heart of the history of two know-how: the manufacture of briar pipe as well as the size of diamond and of precious stones.

This museum is managed by a private association, bringing together industrial players from both sectors, pipe makers and diamond dealersthe Brotherhood of master pipemakers of Saint-Claude and theHaut-Jura Diamond Dealers Association…

1. The history of the manufacture of briar pipes.

In the part of the museum dedicated to the manufacture of briar pipes, tools and old machines immerse the visitor in the atmosphere of the pipe-making workshops which have brought prosperity and notoriety to the city, although it there is no heather in the surrounding forests.

A rich collection of pipes and snuff boxes presents the breadth of production and the diversity of pipes from around the world. Thus the collection of pipes is the only one existing in the world with more than 1600  » calumets « with very diverse shapes and materials (heather, sea foam, boxwood, metal, etc.) on display. Not to be missed, pipes sculpted with the likeness of celebrities, but also the smallest pipe in the world!

2. The discovery of the chapter house.

During the visit, the last room of the space dedicated to pipes includes impressive display cases which house the pipes left by celebrities who have been elected. This space adjoins the chapter house where all these celebrities were inducted and where twice a year members of the Brotherhood of Master Pipemakers created in 1966 at the instigation ofEdgar Faureelected first pipe smoker that year.

3. The size of diamonds and precious stones.

In the other part of the museum is the space devoted to size of diamonds and precious stones. To fully understand the secrets of this meticulous know-how, a reconstructed workshop is animated by automatons which bring the tools and machines of yesteryear to life. In addition, an exhibition of raw and cut stones is also presented.

The visitor can thus discover a collection of works created by Best Workers in France (lapidary category), reproductions of famous diamonds and some gems from the crown of England (diamond category). 4. The tour is not reserved for adults.

Children can also enter and participate in a free mystery gamea sort of treasure hunt in the form of a short questionnaire, the answers to which can be found in the museum.

The museum is open from 1^is September to June 30, Wednesday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
