The National Railway Office (ONCF) is organizing an architectural competition for the design of new stations for the LGV and RER lines in the Kenitra-Marrakech region. This concerns the LGV station in the green city of Benguérir and several RER stations, intended to make rail the essential means of transport for residents of the region.
As part of the development of the high-speed line (LGV) linking Kenitra to Marrakech and the establishment of a regional express network (RER), the ONCF has just launched an architectural competition to design the region’s future stations Marrakech-Safi. The planned infrastructure includes an LGV station in Benguérir and three RER stations in Sidi Bouathmane, Sidi Ghanem and near Marrakech Stadium. These stations will meet specific mobility needs while integrating technical and environmental innovations adapted to sustainability challenges.
A structuring project for rail mobility in the region
The Benguérir LGV station will be a central element of this development. Located near National Road No. 9, this infrastructure will be part of the Green City project, an urban model centered on ecology and innovation. Built around the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, this center aims to offer a modern living environment, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and scientific research. The station will strengthen the connection between this city of knowledge and other major cities in Morocco, while meeting the needs of residents and students.
The RER stations will each have specific objectives depending on their location. In Sidi Bouathmane, the future station will support the development of the industrial zone located approximately 35 km from Marrakech. It will facilitate the transport of workers and help to streamline travel in this region with high economic potential.
The Sidi Ghanem station, located in Marrakech in the Menara district, will be positioned near Route N°7 of Safi, in the heart of another strategic industrial zone. By complementing the existing transport offer, it will strengthen connectivity for local businesses and their employees, while promoting the development of this expanding area. The Stade de Marrakech station, for its part, will be located near this emblematic sports infrastructure. It will mainly be used to welcome travelers during sporting or cultural events organized in the city.
These stations will be designed to strict energy efficiency and sustainability standards. The ONCF insists on the use of technological innovations to guarantee optimal comfort for travelers while reducing the environmental impact of infrastructure.
