The creation of a personal SIA (Weapon Information System) account before December 31, 2024 is mandatory for weapon holders holding a hunting permit or a license from the French Shooting Federation for shooting practice.
The following people are affected:
- having a hunting license, holding a weapon, or wishing to acquire and hold a weapon;
- having a license from the French Shooting Federation for the practice of shooting, holders of a weapon, or wishing to acquire and hold a weapon;
- wishing to keep an inherited or found weapon;
- holders or wishing to acquire certain category C weapons and who have neither a sports license for the practice of ball-trap or biathlon, nor a valid collector's card.
These are category C3 weapons (firearm manufactured to fire a bullet or several non-metallic projectiles), category C9 (category A, B or C firearm neutralized, that is to say rendered unfit firing) and C12 (alarm and signaling weapon).
An alarm and signaling weapon is a device equipped with a power system designed solely for firing blank ammunition, irritants, other active substances or pyrotechnic signaling cartridges. The creation of a personal SIA (Weapon Information System) account must ultimately concern all private weapon holders.
Any holder who has ever obtained a hunting license and who owns at least one weapon must create a personal account in the SIA. It is not mandatory to have current license validation to create an SIA account (but validation is mandatory to acquire a weapon).
To create your account, you must have an email address and bring three documents, in digital format, to create the account in the SIA:
- a valid identity document (identity card, passport or residence permit in France);
- proof of address less than 3 months old;
- the hunting license if you are a hunter or license from the French Shooting Federation if you are a licensed sports shooter.
Also have your SIA number ready if your gunsmith has had the opportunity to create one for you.
