In order to help Samarians reduce their water consumption and limit environmental impact, the Department is setting up a free distribution of hydro-saving kits. This social initiative, which benefits from the support of the Artois-Picardie Water Agencyaims to encourage households to adopt simple but effective actions to save water on a daily basis, while reducing their bills.

Free kits for Samarians

All households in the Somme can benefit from a water saving kit free of charge, provided they register in advance and within the limits of the kits available. Interested people must complete a registration form, accessible online, and collect their kit from the Departmental House of Solidarity and Integration (MDSI) of their sector, after receiving a confirmation email. The MDSIs are open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The contents of the kit

The kit distributed includes several simple to install elements, intended to reduce water consumption in different rooms of the house. It contains:

  • Three aerators to install on taps : to limit the water flow without affecting the comfort of use.
  • A bag to reduce water consumption in toilets : a solution to limit the volume of water used with each flush.
  • A flow reducing joint for the shower : to adapt the water flow to what is essential, while maintaining a comfortable pressure.

These small pieces of equipment allow you to save water with every daily gesture.

Social support to adopt eco-friendly actions

In addition to distributing the kits, the Department provides practical advice to help residents optimize their water consumption. Among the recommendations are several easy-to-adopt eco-gestures, such as:

  • Favor showers over baths and turn off the water while soaping.
  • Install a rainwater collector to water the garden.
  • Opt for a washing machine at 30°C and use economical programs for household appliances.
  • Reduce heating by lowering the temperature by 1°C or by installing thick curtains to better insulate.

These simple but effective actions help reduce water and energy consumption, while reducing household bills.

More information

For those who wish to learn more about solutions to reduce their water and energy consumption, a practical guide was developed by ADEME, entitled “Reducing your water and energy bills”. This guide offers detailed advice for optimizing the use of water and other resources at home.

The Somme Department therefore invites all its residents to participate in this initiative and to register to receive their hydro-saving kit. An action which is part of a global environmental approach, by reducing withdrawals from the natural environment and by raising everyone's awareness of the challenges of saving water.

To consult the installation instructions and obtain more advice, you can go to the dedicated sites and follow the instructions provided by the Department.
