DAKAR, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) — Senegalese deputies adopted the 2025 finance bill on Saturday without debate, Xinhua noted.
This procedure, used for the first time in the parliamentary history of Senegal, is authorized by the Constitution.
During his general policy statement made the day before before the deputies, Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced that he would resort to this procedure on the grounds that it was not possible to hold the traditional “budgetary marathon” before the end of the current year.
Senegal’s 2025 draft budget is expected to reach 6,395.1 billion FCFA (around 10.2 billion US dollars), compared to 7,003.6 billion FCFA (around 11.2 billion US dollars) in 2024.
Expected tax revenues are estimated at 4,359.6 billion FCFA (around 6.9 billion dollars), an increase of 179.6 billion FCFA (around 287.6 million dollars) compared to those of 2024.
The budget deficit is projected at 7.08% of gross domestic product (GDP), up from 11% in 2024 and the growth rate is expected to reach 8.8%.■
