A terrible family tragedy mourned the town of Charvieu-Chavagneux in Isère this Friday. A 64-year-old man was found dead, run over in the street by a car. But the horror of the situation does not end there: the alleged driver of the vehicle is none other than the victim's son.
A family argument that turns into a nightmare
According to the first elements of the investigation, the father and son had planned to spend the afternoon together. But this moment of sharing turned into a nightmare. A violent argument broke out between the two men for reasons still unknown.
According to a witness to the scene, the son, aged around thirty, then “ejected” his father from the moving car before “dragging him several meters” and “rolling over” him. A gesture of incredible violence which left the sixty-year-old with no chance.
The victim found lifeless in the middle of the road
It was around 8:15 p.m. that the lifeless body of the 64-year-old man was discovered, lying on the roadway of this usually quiet street. Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, it was already too late. The sixty-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, his body bearing the marks of the horrific attack.
The son on the run, actively sought
After his act, the son immediately fled, leaving his father's lifeless body behind. An important system has been put in place to find the thirty-year-old, already known to the police according to a source close to the investigation.
Law enforcement searched the area, issuing a description of the suspect and his vehicle. A hunt which finally bore fruit this Saturday afternoon, when the son was arrested in the Paris region and placed in police custody.
An open investigation, the motive still unclear
The Bourgoin-Jallieu Research Brigade and the Grenoble Research Section were jointly responsible for this extraordinary case. A homicide investigation was opened by the Vienna public prosecutor's office, aiming to shed light on this family tragedy.
If the exact circumstances of the tragedy remain to be clarified, the hypothesis of a family dispute which degenerated is for the moment favored by the investigators. The suspect should be questioned soon to give his version of the facts.
