“We are disgusted”: union premises and a dance hall vandalized in

It was late in the afternoon around 7:30 p.m. that individuals broke into the building located on Boulevard de Bulgaria, not far from the southern hospital. The structure was part of the old Torigné shopping center which was demolished last September, and should be redeveloped at the same time as the entire site which should become an artisanal city in 2026. Until that date, the union offices who are usually accommodated there have been temporarily relocated. The dance hall remains in operation. “They entered by forcing the door” explains Jérôme Jourdan deputy secretary FO of the city of , “They then went upstairs where they devastated everything in the dance room. It’s a purely gratuitous act.”

In the annex of the Triangle dance hall, which is located next to the premises of the city's FO and CFDT unions, everything is trashed. The mirrors attached to a section of the wall are broken, all the furniture is on the floor, storage units have been completely emptied and thrown to the ground and the sound systems have been torn out. In the adjoining rooms housing the two unions it is the same spectacle of desolation. Cupboards containing dishes and benches were thrown into the stairwell.

A complaint filed

“Our premises are protected by sound alarms which have been triggered. This is undoubtedly what put them on the run,” underlines the trade unionist who expresses his exasperation. In fact, these facts are not the first to occur. In 2019 the union premises had already been vandalized. At the start of 2024, then at the start of the destruction of the shopping center last spring, windows were also broken there. “During a meeting at the beginning of December regarding the premises, we asked the administration in vain for security to be improved by, in particular, strengthening our doors. We are disgusted because what we see on the ground is not taken into account by the Rennes administration.”

A complaint should be filed following these events. Saturday morning, the police were on site to make the usual surveys and findings as part of the investigation which was opened into these facts.
