An 85-year-old woman died of cardiac arrest the day before yesterday evening, Friday December 27, in the commune of El Hammadia, located in the wilaya of Bordj Bou Arreridj. The tragedy occurred while she was performing a song in tribute to her brother, who died during the struggle for national liberation. Zohra composed this song in 1959 in memory of her brother Mohamed Saadeddine, known as Habchi, who fell in battle during an ambush against a battalion of the French army at a place called Haltala. Then aged 29, she wrote these words to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of her brother, embodying determination in the fight for national Independence. According to testimonies, the shahid managed to kill six enemy soldiers before succumbing. According to a relative, it was when she was pronouncing her brother’s name, in the last verse, that she collapsed. Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, they were unable to resuscitate her. His death caused great emotion in the communes of El Hammadia and Rabta, as evidenced by the large crowd at his burial yesterday, Saturday December 28.
