In partnership with the Federal Regional Cancer Institute of Franche-Comté (IRFC), the OncoDoubs association offers each week to more than 380 patients, during their chemotherapy, supportive care carried out by 17 providers in hospitals in the and Jura.

“Our goal is to provide comfort and reassurance in the face of the anxiety generated by chemotherapy. Through supportive care, such as gentle massages or socio-aesthetic treatments, we help patients accept their image and maintain self-esteem,” describes its president François Vuillemin.

Funds raised during events

Socio-estheticians, adapted sports teachers among others, are financed by funds raised during events or by numerous donations from different organizations. “After more than 100 demonstrations of support, particularly as part of Pink October 2024, the association is expanding its activity by recruiting other providers to reach 420 treatments offered per week,” announces the president.

Among the thirty hours of adapted sport, boxing made a notable entry. Currently, 4 hours are provided at the Maison desfamilies in Besançon and from January 6, 2025, two hours will be offered at the Health Center. “Riposte” is the name chosen for these workshops during which participants will fight their illness in a different way.

Boxing, a good outlet

They will be hosted by Laura Wagner, oncology nurse, boxer and qualified boxing coach. In a small notebook produced by the association, some testimonies from participants in the first boxing workshops say a lot about their benefits. “Punching a punching bag is a good outlet for the anger that illness can cause,” says a patient. As for Sophie, she wrote: “boxing allowed me to evacuate the feelings of anger and injustice of having suffered this illness and these treatments and to discover through this sport that my body was regaining strength”.
