The drivers of the little blue taxis are accused by users of using force to intercept vehicles collaborating with VTC platforms, in order to protest against the use of these private means of urban transport which «compete». These scenes arouse the anger of citizens.
The Rabat police quickly intervened on Thursday December 26, taking the four people into custody, including the VTC driver. Those involved, particularly blue taxi drivers, often seek to impose their own methods to dissuade VTC drivers and resolve, in their own way, this persistent dispute. However, a lasting and long-awaited solution relies on concerted action between the Ministries of the Interior and Transport, on the one hand, and the taxi unions, on the other.
A fortnight ago, a similar scenario occurred in Casablanca, when taxi drivers almost caused a diplomatic incident by intercepting a VTC on board which were a Russian diplomat and his wife. This episode was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The government must act quickly to resolve this problem by establishing a clear and precise regulatory framework, by regularizing the situation of VTC drivers of the InDrive application who claim to pay their taxes in Morocco. Blue taxis and large white taxis in Rabat are also singled out for their non-compliance with the highway code. The urgency is signaled, especially since Morocco must organize the CAN 2025 and the 2030 Football World Cup.
