A collection carried out in collaboration between several associations made it possible to collect food and hygiene products. They were delivered to a Spanish foundation to help those affected by the Valencia floods.
Following the deadly floods that occurred in the Valencia region in Spain on October 29, the Lectoure-Fleurance Rotary Club organized a food drive on December 6 and 7 at the Intermarché in Lectoure. This collection was carried out in collaboration with volunteers from other associations such as Secours catholique, France Ukraine and the Food Bank. Thanks to this collective mobilization, 8 m³ of food and hygiene products were collected to help the victims.
Rotary sent “its warm thanks to the Combebias family, owners of Intermarché, for their generous support, as well as to their loyal customers for their valuable contribution”.
Humanitarian expedition
On December 21 and 22, Béatrice Ligardes, president of the Rotary-Club Lectoure-Fleurance, André Galoix, outgoing president, and Maurice Hurstel, treasurer, took the road to deliver these donations to the Spanish foundation Ayuda una familia in Valencia. This mission was made possible thanks to the help of Régis Prunet, elected governor of district 1700, who made a vehicle available for transport, and Delphine Valls, of the Rotary foundation, who covered the costs of highway and fuel, and Vicente Jesus Juan Verdu, who organized their arrival.
On site, the club members were welcomed by the oldest Rotary Club of Valencia, as well as by Isidoro Ales-Gomez, president of the Spanish Rotarians humanitarian foundation.
A better future
This action, the result of solidarity between volunteers, associations and institutions, once again demonstrates Rotary's commitment to helping the most deprived. The Rotary-Club Lectoure-Fleurance thanked “all those who contributed to the success of this great initiative.
