Dakar, Dec 27 (APS) – Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced on Friday the design and implementation of a conservation and resilience program for natural ecosystems, focused on rational and sustainable use of natural resources.

”The government will design and implement a program for the conservation and resilience of ecosystems,” said the Prime Minister to the deputies, during his General Policy Declaration.

He specified that in terms of strengthening the resilience of ecosystems, ”environmental management will be focused on rational use of natural resources and permanent monitoring”.

Ousmane Sonko also announced the upcoming presentation to deputies of “a bill on biodiversity”.

”We will also introduce new protected areas to cover 30% of the country’s terrestrial, marine and wetland territory and each protected area will have a sustainable development and conservation plan,” he announced. , also emphasizing the need to “accelerate the implementation of the Great Green Wall (GMV) program.”

He noted that resilience to climate risk and environmental sustainability will only be achieved in an inclusive manner.

Still regarding sustainable development, he indicated that actions will be included in the promotion of sustainable management of natural ecosystems and the conduct of a fair and equitable energy transition.

According to him, given the transversality of the problem, ”sustainable development units will be set up within all ministerial departments”.

Regarding the just and equitable energy transition, the Prime Minister specified that it is “about strengthening the energy mix through the promotion of new energy sources, solar, wind and even marine energy and why not nuclear power especially since the reflection has been launched”.

”In this regard, we reaffirm our desire to achieve an energy mix of around 30 to 40% by 2030. We will also implement an ambitious strategy to guarantee universal access to energy by 2030. electricity,” he promised, recalling that Senegal currently produces a little less than 2,000 megawatts.

”And in the benchmark for 2050, it is a question of reaching 10,000 megawatts, the gap is therefore extremely important,” he declared.
