The 2e edition of the One Birth – One Tree operation took place on Saturday December 21, 2024, under the leadership of Patricia Carraramunicipal councilor responsible for green spaces, in La Bernerie-en-Retz (Loire-Atlantique), near Pornic.
Eighteen young Bernese children born in 2023 have their own tree (cormier, hornbeam, ash or service tree) personalized within the Commons of La Rogère.
The mayor Jacques Prieur underlined the importance of these trees which, in the current context of climate change, “will become allies as they grow”.
Representative of the Pays de la Loire Regional Council, which initiated this event and provides the plants, Claire Hugues herself noted the symbolism of this “operation which contributes to the quality of life”, before the students of the municipal children's council read an appropriate poem by Robert Desnos.
“One of our family traditions”
Bernerian by birth, well known in the town as a firefighter descended from an entire family line involved in helping people and property, Jeremy Renaud and his companion Laura Pécot came with their three children to discover the young cormier who is celebrating the birth of Alix, their daughter born in August 2023.
“We are all the more sensitive to this great initiative as it joins one of our family traditions which means that Alix and her two brothers Raphaël and Andrea already have their personal tree in the garden of the house we have lived in since 2017,” explains the young couple.
A tradition with which the cormier tree will now be associated, a fruit tree with honey-producing flowers once venerated by the Druids, which the town dedicated to the birth of Alix!
