Dakar, Dec 27 (APS) – MP Awa Seck (Pastef) pleaded, Friday, for better consideration of the concerns of people living with disabilities in the development of public policies.
»Today, I am delighted to be present in the chamber in my capacity as an MP living with a disability. This demonstrates the desire of the new authorities to support this marginalized segment of the population. Nevertheless, I ask you, Mr. Prime Minister, for better consideration of our concerns in public policies,” she declared.
Awa Seck spoke thus after the general policy declaration of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
To do this, she said, “the first act of the government must consist of carrying out an exhaustive census of all people living with a disability in Senegal”.
“We will then have to ensure that they can be integrated, without any discrimination, into the professional world because, in sectors and all fields, we have profiles suitable for work,” according to Awa Seck.
She also requested the establishment of a training institute dedicated to visually impaired high school graduates, as well as compliance with construction standards taking their disabilities into account, particularly for public buildings and services.
“Our wish is that every disabled person in Senegal can carry out their personal and professional activities without human assistance,” she said.
