Qatar-Morocco: 2024, a year rich in cultural exchanges

The Qatar-Morocco Years of Culture 2024 initiative ended in apotheosis with a grandiose equestrian show from Tbourida to Al Shaqab, celebrating a year of cultural, artistic and social exchanges between the two countries. Through more than 80 events, this unique collaboration highlighted the heritage, innovation and deep ties between Qatar and Morocco, paving the way for promising prospects.

On December 17, the dazzling Moroccan art of the Tbourida marked the conclusion of the Qatar-Morocco Years of Culture 2024. Chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Her Excellency Sheikha Sara Bint Hamad Al-Thani, this event brought together hundreds of spectators at the Al Shaqab center, the center of equestrian excellence in Qatar. It was the culmination of a year full of collaborations aimed at celebrating heritage and stimulating creativity.

Structuring pillars for a memorable year
Under the direction of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa, the initiative was structured around four major axes: cultural heritage, with prestigious exhibitions such as “Berber Jewelry of the Royal Palace” or “Splendors of the Atlas”, highlighting Moroccan art through historical and contemporary pieces.

The Dar Al Maghrib Pavilion at MIA Park served as a showcase for Moroccan traditions, hosting immersive activities and innovative exhibitions. The creative industries stood out, through projects like “Ektashif: Morocco” where Qatari artists explored Moroccan crafts.

The Caftans parade, chaired by HRH Lalla Hasnaa, celebrated the timeless elegance of traditional Moroccan clothing, while designers like Mohamed Benchellal presented works focused on sustainable fashion.

Social development, marked by initiatives such as the Her Game Festival, promoting women’s empowerment through football, or Cultural Crossroads, which encouraged literary exchanges between Moroccan and Qatari families. Innovation, with events like the Qatar-Africa Business Forum in Marrakech, brought together leaders from both countries to discuss artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

Exemplary institutional cooperation
The initiative was made possible thanks to unprecedented coordination between flagship institutions of the two countries. In Qatar, organizations like Qatar Museums, the Katara Cultural Village Foundation and the Doha Film Institute have played a key role.

On the Moroccan side, the National Museum Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Tourism Office provided valuable support, strengthening synergies between the two nations. An impact that will resonate for a long time. More than just a celebration, the Qatar-Morocco Years of Culture 2024 have laid the foundations for lasting cooperation. Projects initiated this year will continue to flourish, ensuring that the spirit of dialogue and collaboration endures.

“This initiative is not only a year of exchanges, but a legacy for future generations,” we rejoice on both the Qatari and Moroccan sides.

With an exceptional program affecting thousands of participants, the Qatar-Morocco Years of Culture 2024 demonstrated the power of intercultural exchanges to bring people together.

This exemplary partnership opens new perspectives for collaboration between Qatar, Morocco and the rest of the world, illustrating the power of culture as a lever for social and economic transformation.
