On Friday December 20, 2024, the primary school christmas meal of Saint-Pierre-du-Vauvray (Eure) was the opportunity for elected officials to highlight the work of Géraldine Potor, the canteen lady.

Laetitia Sanchezmayor of the commune, and his deputies, Bernard Leboeuf and Frédéric Besnardare attached to children to share their meal with ease.

“In our canteen, the meals served to the children have been prepared on site by Madame Potor for 12 years. It provides two services, the first for 30 children from nursery classes then a second for 55 primary school students », explains Aline Meheust, town hall secretary before inviting us to question the star of the day who obviously could not leave his stove without taking the risk of seeing his work reduced to nothing.

“A real source of motivation”

The latter, with a smile, explains: “On today's menu, the children have salmon as a starter, then rosties with mashed potatoes and carrots accompanied by turkey meat and to finish, a chocolate buchette. » Then, she tells us about her professional journey. “After a career as a typistI began a retraining process which led me to join this position for which I trained. »

The fact that my work is recognized by elected officials touches Géraldine Potor. But she says that what makes her “happy is see the smiles of children every day ». For her, “it’s a real source of motivation. »

Some children even tell me sometimes that it's better than at home! It’s true that I cook as if they were my own children.

The canteen worker adds: “My retirement in 2026 will be complicated, perhaps, but I am not asking the question too much yet because I feel fulfilled in my work. I'm not in a routine as I work two jobs, this one and another at a part-time cleaning company. » Then she concludes: “If there is one thing that I had to remember from this professional experience, it was the comments made by a CM 2 student, shortly after my integration when I was perhaps still doubting my legitimacy. He told me: 'If there are children eating, it's good.' This sentence still resonates in my mind. »
