The prefect of Tarn has issued a series of decrees prohibiting individuals from purchasing and transporting fuel in transportable containers as well as fireworks until January 2. The objective is to “prevent any disturbance of public order”.

From this Friday, December 27, the purchase and transport by individuals of fuel in transportable containers are prohibited in the department, “unless necessary duly justified by the customer and verified, as necessary, with the assistance of the services premises of the national police or gendarmerie”, specifies the ban order issued by the prefect of Tarn Laurent Buchaillat.

“Retailers, managers and operators of service stations, particularly those with automated fuel dispensing devices or pumps, must ensure compliance with this requirement.”

This ban until January 2 aims to “prevent any disturbance of public order”, indicates the prefecture, recalling that on the occasion of the end-of-year celebrations, “a significant number of fires caused by isolated individuals or in meetings against property in the public domain but also vehicles and public property.

The prefectural decree also explains that “the misappropriated and malicious use of fuel is one of the means used to commit arson”.

Ban on fireworks

A second prefectural decree, taken on December 22, also prohibits the purchase, sale, possession, transport and use of fireworks on public roads or in the direction of public spaces until December 2 next January. Here too the objective is to prevent “serious disturbances to public order”.

This ban does not apply to people who can justify the use of fireworks as part of a declared pyrotechnic show or a fireworks display previously declared or authorized by the mayor of a municipality.
