In December 2024, the president of Pas-de-Calais Jean-Claude Leroy a visited the temporary college of Marquise (Pas-de-Calais), which replaces the one closed two years ago. This while waiting for new establishment to come, in 2027. A particularly anticipated project, since it is the largest college in the department.
The deconstruction of the historic college launched
Two years after the closure of the Marquise metal college, the president of the Department, Jean-Claude Leroy presented with Blandine Drain, vice-president in charge of colleges and in the presence of departmental advisors Brigitte Bourguignon and Marc Sarpaux, the reconstruction projectlast Tuesday, December 10.
They visited the construction site of deconstruction of the historic buildinglaunched in September 2024, and the temporary college“erected in record time and which gives satisfaction to the educational community”, we support from the Department.
A hasty closure due to deterioration of the building
At the end of 2022, the Department was forced to order the closure of the Jean Rostand college in Marquise, following an inspection. Blandine Drain, vice-president of the Department in charge of colleges, explained at the end of 2023: “the metal structure oxidized much more quickly than we expected. As the safety of the students is priceless, we took no risk, we chose to close the largest college in Pas-de-Calais with its 900 students. »
And emergency construction site was therefore launched, to accommodate students in a temporary establishment: hundreds of modules, installed on a 6,000m plot of land2made available by the City, near the existing college. Up to 80 companions took turns welcoming students in March 2023, awaiting the construction of the new college, which had in fact already been in progress since 2021.
“This vast project aims to be fully part of the college of tomorrow, promoting real equality of opportunity.”
“Things are progressing in a positive way”
One of the objectives of this departmental mandate is also that there are no more metal colleges in the Departmentwhether the projects are finished or at least launched, by the end of the mandate in 2027.
“Our community, which is committed to rebuilding the last metal colleges in Pas-de-Calais, has taken its responsibilities here. Things are progressing in a positive manner and we can be happy about that,” declared Jean-Claude Leroy during his visit to Marquise on December 10. The appointment is now set for September 2027 for the discovery of the brand new premises.
