A speedboat type boat, completely burned, was found yesterday, stranded on the coast of the town of St-André. It was at Chemin de l’Étang, in -Rouge, that the ship was reported. According to information relayed by the Imaz Press agency in , no one was on board or near the boat.

According to Stéphane Patché, from the Alliance Police nationale union, “the boat is approximately seven meters long”. Although the hypothesis of a voluntary act is favored concerning the fire, the identification of its origin remains difficult, if not impossible. On site, the police, accompanied by forensic identification technicians, carry out various findings. An investigation has been opened.

This is not the first boat to be found stranded in the east of Reunion Island. According to Imaz Press, the latest incident dates back to Thursday May 30, 2024, when a fishing vessel named Mao was discovered stranded on the coast of Champ-Borne, in St-André. Two Mauritians were on board. In an irregular situation, they were returned to Mauritius before being placed in detention.

Previously, on Thursday July 27, 2023, a speedboat type boat was found on the coast of Rivière-du-Mât-les-Bas, in St-André. On July 15, 2023, another speedboat ran aground off St-Benoît, on the Beaufonds coast, without any person being found on board or nearby. Finally, on Monday April 24, 2023, a speedboat was discovered stranded on the coast of Ste-Rose, at Anse-des-Cascades. Three men, known footballers in Mauritius, fled after the incident, before being arrested and placed in pre-trial detention.
