Never, probably, has the Notre-Dame de Bordeaux church welcomed so many tracksuits and scarves from the Girondins de Bordeaux. Around 200 people gathered there this Friday morning, to pay tribute to Pierre known as “Pierrot” Labat, former educator of the club, died on the night of Saturday December 21 to Sunday December 22 at 88 years old. In the crowd, anonymous people but also former players, coaches and president of the club: Alain Giresse, Bixente Lizarazu, Marius Trésor, Patrick Battiston, Alain Roche, Élie Baup, Jean-Louis Triaud, Grégory Sertic and Jaroslav Plasil were notably present this Friday.
Arriving in the 1980s at the Girondins de Bordeaux, Pierrot Labat saw generations of Girondins de Bordeaux players pass through, whom he helped to improve technically, in particular. Many have paid tribute to him on social networks in recent days. 1998 world champion and former captain of the Girondins, Bixente Lizarazu described him, for example, as“an outstanding coach and trainer” and of “confidant from the start”.
