Lack of staff in nursing homes: Eymoutiers caregivers angry

Caregivers denounce a lack of staff which leads to poor care for the elderly. For them, the public service of nursing homes has become difficult: “We no longer have the time to take care of everyone while respecting their individuality,” said several of the workers present.

Five caregivers for forty residents

As elsewhere, it is the availability requested from caregivers by management that is a source of discontent as well as the working conditions which have been degraded for some time now: on average in public nursing homes, there are five caregivers for forty residents. which explains why the staff are exhausted, adds the CFDT staff representative from La Pelaudine, Marion Parouty, nursing assistant. Moreover, caregivers are even recalled from their leave.

Another caregiver explained that “by the age of 40, many of us are worn out so how can we continue to respect residents if we are asked to work even longer? “.

For the secretary of the departmental section of the French Democratic Confederation of Labor, David Combeau, “we are asking, among other things, for an improvement in working conditions, for allocated budgets to be consistent with the needs of the structures, to allow staff to offer dignified patient care. » The union has also called for mobilizations in several establishments in the department.

The deputy secretary of the Health-Social branch of the CGT, Ludovic Lagarde, nurse at the University Hospital, added that the CGT joins the CFDT in these mobilizations because the nursing home staff are suffering and that “the Ségur de la Santé does not has not resolved the staff shortage. »

The majority of staff support the strike even if they stay with the residents to support them.
